The Leaves are still FALLing!

Most Dusty Fall Ever!

With the extreme lack of rain and the inevitable falling of leaves, our Grounds Crew is hard at work trying to keep up. You see them with blowers, riding machines, and the vacuum trucks this time every year. While this work is routine, there is something different this year...DUST! The lack of rainfall has left soils parched, and fallen leaves are dry and brittle. As our Grounds Crew works to collect fallen leaves, a lot of dust is being kicked up in the process.

It is important for us to continue with leaf collection. If we don't keep up with this work, blowing leaves collect in areas they shouldn't. This creates fire hazards, obstructions to storm drain areas, rodent nesting areas, damage to grass and plants, and increase future work loads on both our Reisdents and our Staff.

Please be sure to take advantage of the organic recycling cans (green lids) that are provided to you. At the bottom of this email you will find the links to the Blue Hen Dispose-All calendars. No plastic bags please, only paper sacks.

As a reminder: It is a violation of Community Guidelines to dispose of your leaves or yard waste on empty lots and common areas. Residents are to utilize either the yard waste toter that has been provided, paper bags, or string-tied bundles of branches for disposal, according to the instructions in the calendars.

Seasonal Tips

It is important to stay vigilant this time of year while driving to avoid the possible deer collision. Here are some helpful tips from AAA on how to prevent, or limit, deer collision damage:
  • Be especially attentive from sunset to midnight and during the hours shortly before and after sunrise. These are the highest risk times for deer-vehicle collisions
  • Drive with caution when traveling through deer-crossing zones, in areas known to have a large deer population and in areas where roads divide agricultural fields from forestland
  • Keep in mind that deer seldom travel alone. If you see one deer, others may be nearby
  • When driving at night, use high-beam headlights if there is no oncoming traffic. They will better illuminate the eyes of deer on or near the roadway
  • Slow down and blow your horn with one long blast to frighten any deer away
  • Brake firmly when you spot a deer in or near your path, but stay in your lane. Many serious crashes occur when a driver swerves to avoid a deer and hits another vehicle or loses control of the car
  • Always wear your seat belt. Most people seriously injured in car-deer crashes were not wearing their seat belt
  • Do not rely on devices such as deer whistles, deer fences and reflectors to deter deer. These devices have not been proven to reduce deer-vehicle collisions
  • If your vehicle strikes a deer, don't try to assist the animal. A frightened and wounded deer can hurt you or further injure itself. The best approach is to get your car off the road, if possible, call the police.

Prepare for Freezing Temperatures:
  • Winterize outside water spigots
  • Put away outdoor grills and furniture
  • Remove outside lighting that may be damaged in icy conditions (i.e. string lighting)
  • Remove anything from the outside of your home that might blow away
  • Test your heating, if you have not done so already
  • Seal any drafty windows
  • Clean gutters! This will help prevent ice buildup.

"Love the community! My family and I always enjoy ourselves when we are here."

- Danell, Pot-Nets Resident

"Love our little slice of Paradise! Great spot for kids to grow up in the summer. The beach is great for infants because there are no waves. Paradise has great entertainment. We love watching the boats come in and listening tot he music. Such good memories for family fun!"

- Sarah, Pot-Nets Resident

"By far the BEST course in Delmarva. Played today for my first time. The experience starts from the moment you arrive.Your bag is placed in a cart, fitted with the course layout, GPS and a digital card. The professionalism the staff is something you won’t find at any other course. The starter will find you and escort you to the first T box. He explained the rules of the course like how to fix divots and ball marks, something you should already do but sadly is frequently overlooked. It’s like the long wood gardens of golf courses. You’re not going to see jeans and t-shirts on this course. Can’t wait until my next T-time."
