Boating Safety

We want to remind all boaters that our Federal and State agencies are always patrolling the Indian River Inlet and other areas, conducting random boat spot-checks and inspections. Participating in our Vessel Safety Checks with the USCG Auxiliary will ensure you are prepared for a random stop or inspection.

Federal & State agencies are here to assist you regarding any questions related to Boater Safety, Regulations, Fishing & reportable accidents on the water. We are lucky to have USCG Auxiliary members in our community that are willing to help and assist and host many events to help increase our knowledge and preparedness when heading out on the boat.

You can also contact...

  1. United States Coast Guard and USCG Indian River Inlet Station: 302-227-2439 for all Federal questions, boater safety, and Federal channel markers (in our general area, those outside our bays and inlets).
  2. Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. DNREC Natural Resources Police: 800-523-3336 for fishing, crabbing, boater safety, and State channel markers (for our general area, those inside our bays and inlets).

Vessel Safety Check

"The DNREC Office of Boating Safety and Education’s mission is to develop individual awareness, skills, commitment to safe responsible behavior, and constructive actions in safe boating. The goal for students is to be aware of state laws regarding safety violations and how to prevent them from happening while still enjoying Delaware’s waterways."

Who Must Wear A Life Jacket?

Everyone on your boat should wear a life jacket, but it is mandatory that all children 12 and under wear a life jacket. All vessels must have a life jacket for each person on board. Everyone on a personal watercraft (jet ski) must wear a life jacket (both driver and passengers) at all times. Anyone being towed behind a vessel is required to wear a life jacket.

Boating Registration

"Delaware law requires the registration of all motorboats, including those powered by electric motors, if Delaware is its state of principal use. All motorboats launched from tidal access areas administered by the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife must be registered in Delaware or have a valid Tidal Access Boat Ramp Certificate."

We're located just before the Bayside beach - on the right side just before you pull into the parking area for Paradise Grill.

Freedom Boat Club has been busy the past couple of months servicing the existing fleet and receiving and prepping new boats to get them ready for the upcoming season.

Picture yourself on one of our new Key West FS239 Center Consoles as you head out for a day of fishing with your buddies...

...Or take out a Bayliner DX2200 on the Indian River for a day of tubing or causing with your family...

...Or find your own private island to beach on in Rehoboth Bay with one of our pontoons.

Freedom Boat Club members have access to an entire fleet of boats and multiple locations to enjoy the beautiful waters of Delaware and beyond.

With all these new additions to our Delaware fleet, you can spend your summer on a different boat every day.

Fishing License

"A Delaware recreational fishing license covers recreational fishing, crabbing and clamming in all Delaware waters. Licenses must be purchased annually by recreational anglers. In addition to the license, recreational anglers who purchase an individual fishing license or resident boat fishing license will automatically be issued a Delaware Fisherman Information Network (FIN) number.

All funds derived from the issuance of fishing licenses are dedicated to a special account for the purpose of matching and securing federal money allotted to Delaware under the provisions of the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act. Together, these funds support restoration, conservation, management and enhancement of sportfish and the provisions for public use and benefit from these resources.

Delaware fishing licenses can be purchased online via Digital DNREC or in-person at an authorized license agent or at the licensing desk inside DNREC’s Richardson and Robbins Building, at 89 Kings Highway SW, in Dover."
